The Critique of “The Story of Cosmetics”

by Lee Doren on July 26, 2010

Annie Leonard, creator of “The Story of Stuff,” is back at it again. This time she uploaded a video titled, “The Story of Cosmetics.” Unfortunately, the entire video is bogus.

In fact, peer-reviewed science disputes almost everything she asserts. Worst of all, she is advocating for legislation that would cripple our economy. Below is my video critique of “The Story of Cosmetics.”

Fisking Gregory Ferenstein

June 4, 2010

Recenlty I had the displeasure of reading Gregory Ferenstein’s column, “Why the web benefits liberals more than conservatives.” Ferenstein’s central thesis is that liberal ideological characteristics facilitate Internet success, while the opposite is true for conservatism. Frankly, his entire piece is based on assumptions without evidence. Ferenstein states: “From the micro-donation platform first popularized by [...]

My Debate With Mark Levine

May 6, 2010

I had another debate Monday night with liberal talk radio host Mark Levine (not to be confused with Mark Levin). It was a fun night, and I hope to be able to do it again. As I mentioned last time, I had to take down my previous debates from YouTube. Fortunately, the newest video is [...]

I Have Another Debate Tomorrow; UPDATE video taken down:

April 18, 2010

Hey folks: I have another debate in front of students from around the country tomorrow. It should be a very exciting event. Last time, students asked questions on domestic policy and I then debated the Communications Director for Senator Dorgan on those issues. Unfortunately, I was not able to tape the entire debate as I [...]

Alan Grayson Worked as an Economist for 4 Years? UPDATE from Grayson’s Press Secretary; UPDATE #2: Email from Grayson’s Press Secretary

April 16, 2010

A few months ago Alan Grayson said the following: “Here I am, the only Member of Congress who actually worked as an economist. And she’s, this lobbyist, this K Street whore, is trying to teach me about economics.” Recently, Grayson was on the Dylan Ratigan show and said, “Well, I have the benefit of working [...]

My Post is up at Big Journalism

April 15, 2010

I just wrote a column for Big Journalism regarding the reporting of the Tea Party event. I found it interesting that Nicholas Kristof sets such a high standard for reporting in the Congo, employing rational skepticism with all sources, and yet many people in the media today ignore those standards when reporting about the Tea [...]

My Debate with Barry Piatt

April 5, 2010

Today I will be debating Barry Piatt in front of several students in Silver Springs, Maryland. Barry Piatt is the Communications Director for the Democratic Policy Committee and a Senior Adviser to Senator Byron Dorgan (D-ND). I’m not exactly sure about the format of the debate, nor how formal the rules will be. But, nevertheless, [...]

Please Stop Citing NumbersUSA and FAIR

March 19, 2010

It pains me deeply when I see people who I respect being tricked by Leftist charlatans. Sadly, over the last month, I have observed well-respected leaders of the liberty movement like Mark Levin, Michelle Malkin and others, unknowingly citing radical environmental groups to support their position against illegal immigration.  This needs to stop as soon [...]

I Challenged Annie Leonard to a Debate

March 15, 2010

Many of you have seen my “Story of Stuff” critique. I also learned a few weeks ago that Annie Leonard would be releasing the “Story of Bottled Water,” and “The Story of Stuff” book, which I have almost finished reading. Sadly, I know many compassionate teachers will attempt to bring the book into classrooms the [...]

Meet the Coffee Party

March 15, 2010

It was rather sad to meet the members of the Coffee Party this weekend. Frankly, they seemed demoralized and had absolutely no coherent message to explain why they were part of the new “movement.” I guess that explains why many of them supported “Change.” “Change” was an amorphous term that surrounded a past grassroots movement, [...]
