Please Stop Citing NumbersUSA and FAIR

by Lee Doren on March 19, 2010

It pains me deeply when I see people who I respect being tricked by Leftist charlatans. Sadly, over the last month, I have observed well-respected leaders of the liberty movement like Mark Levin, Michelle Malkin and others, unknowingly citing radical environmental groups to support their position against illegal immigration.  This needs to stop as soon as possible.

Let me be very clear: NumbersUSA and FAIR (Federation for American Immigration Reform) are Leftist environmental organizations. Their ideas mirror that of Paul Ehrlich, author of “The Population Bomb,” who argued that we are running out of resources, the population is growing out-of-control and one means of solving that “problem” is by stopping immigration to America.

NumbersUSA and FAIR advocate exactly what Ehrlich argued, and for exactly the same reason. However, unlike Ehrlich, these organizations simply toss in faux conservative arguments to hopefully catch the attention of people like Michelle Malkin or Mark Levin. That is why they exist in the first place.

I’ve already documented some of FAIR’s positions in a previous blog post, where they recommend that their supporters read books on ZPG (Zero-population growth), and argue “Population growth is the main impediment to the achievement of our environmental goals.” But, NumbersUSA is no different.

In fact, NumbersUSA has released videos supporting an environmental centralized planner, scaring people about their carbon footprint, pushing fears of urban sprawl and Green Space and fighting our oil usage.

Someone please explain to me what is socially conservative or libertarian about population controls, or environmental centralized planning; I’ll wait. (Just click the links in the previous paragraph to watch videos that might as well been made by GreenPeace.)

Despite what people think about Immigration Reform, groups like FAIR and NumbersUSA have no business in the movement, and people who cite them unknowingly discredit themselves. Please stop doing so.

This is not funny that people actually believe in controlling population. Do these people want to end up like China, dictating birthrate as well. I understand overpopulation can be bad for a nation that doesn't have the strong economy to sustain itself and allow individuals to prosper on their own. A economy that can deal with even environmental issues if truly needed. That's why I'm conservative, so that ability to overcome problems exists and dictating freedom doesn't happen.
